Have made quite a long list of topics about Chinese art to write about. However, we keep changing our mind on the topics. Ahhhhhh, we are feeling very much lack of inspirations now. Do you have any idea on what we can write about for our November’s art newsletter?

Yan was thinking about writing something about Chinese seal, but it turned out to too difficult. Even if we did make some drafts, none of them came out nice. We were also proposing to write something about outline of Chinese calligraphy history… well, as you might have noticed, this topic is too macro for us to master. … Hmm, this is how we got stuck at this moment..

Inspiration is urgently needed!! Please HELP!!

Maybe you can keep it in line of the Chinese seal. You can talk about Chinese seals throughout the years, what the difference was between great calligraphers or emperors. I’ve heard that some emperors had significant seals to put on works to claim their own or claim in their possession.

Or maybe write about a specific kind of script or calligrapher of that script. For example there was a calligrapher that developed a certain style and is now called the “needle-style-script”. I do not remember his name unfortunately.

Hope this helps a bit 🙂

There are some interesting articles about traditional paintings in Shanghai daily online edition:

These are setting the paintings in their historical context more than specifically commenting on materials and techniques.
