why my paper creases after I painted on it?

I bought some very high grade professional papers but I found they crease after I paint. This also happens to my Red Star papers. Why? How can I solve the problem?

In China, it is also recommended to keep the raw Xuan paper after it is kept for a while. This process is called 退火 which literally means ‚reduce fire‘. 🙂 This makes the paper more friendly to use and more flat after the painting is dry.

i usually iron it after the paint had dried completely

but be careful

1. don’t use a very hot iron
2. cover the painting with a cloth before ironing
3. let it dry completely, wait 2-3 days
4. store it properly otherwise the creases will reapperar
