I love the range of shades in this picture and the personality expressed in the bird. I also love the beetle.

(shy!) my very first class on painting peony with Chinese materials. I used expert birds and flower papers, Gufa Da Bai Yun Jian Hao Combination brush for peony flower petals, and 0403Ws Lang Hao for peonoy leaves, Red Star Lang Hao S for the details. Normally I prefer using the natural mineral Chinese colours from Old Hu Kai Wen 老胡开文 or Jiang Si Xu Tang 姜思序堂 but this time I simply used the Japanese Sakura liquid paints for Chinese paintings. The colours are better than Marie’s but I would still prefer natural mineral colours which are much more bright, intense, and behaves much better with the paper.

Anyway, lolol, definitely need to try very hard to learn the painting skills and practice calligraphy to be better at controlling the materials. 🙂

I love this piece. The touch of yellow in the face and the beautiful Lilly add to the bitter sweet tone of the work.

on the past Sunday, i went to Hanghzou Xixi National Waterland Park to paint. It was not convenient to take xuan paper with me. Therefore, I used Canson 185g/m2 90lbs paper. The Chinese watercolor doesn't perform ideally on such watercolor paper. I still prefer to use watercolour on Xuan paper.

On Sunday I went to Hangzhou National Wetland Park to paint. It was not convenient to take Xuan paper with me. Therefore, I used French Canson watercolour paper 185 g/m2, 90lbs. This is my favorite watercolour papers. And I painted with Sakura’s Chinese paints. Although the Chinese colours performed as well as normal western watercolours on Canson watercolour paper, I still prefer to paint on handmade Chinese xuan papers which can absorb the colours and, hence, create very unique colour effects.

And, for convenience, I travelled with a plastic watercolour plate. However, I didn’t like it at all after using white ceramic colour plates all the time. The colours were sort of ‘attached’ on the plastic surface too much. On the contrary, when the colours are applied on ceramics, the colour is so much easier to be mixed, diluted, etc. I think I will never use plastic colour plate any more.

This is the painting I tried on Canson watercolour paper:

Ah, how nice! I think this is the Inkston Double Layer Xuan paper. Inkston double layer paper is much thicker than normal double layer Xuan papers. It is nice to see this humid weather in the painting.  And I found that your signature seems to be very consistent in your paintings. Is that seal with black seal paste?

Hi, to all! Great painting everyone!

These are a couple of paintings done on Inkston expert landscape paper. The one saying « Teki » is wet mounted with the same kind of paper, the other one is not yet mounted. The colurs in « Teki » are usual european watercolours, but have been treated before mounting with a wash of alum-glue water, so they went through wet mounting fine. The other dog is named Bubu, in case you were wondering 🙂 .

Also, these are done on Inkston Expert Landscape paper. The thing is that the pine is done on Expert Landscape sized by myself with alum-glue water. Both paintings are not mounted yet.
