26th février 2019 à 12:12 en réponse à : how to flatten wrinkles on Xuan paper before painting? #19802
罗雁 LuoYan
Maître des clésIt is normal for the painting to wrinkle. This is why you need to mount your painting. You do not need to frame it finely with silk but you need to mount it with natural glue. Once it is mounted, the painting is flat automatically. Some people use silicon and iron, we do not recommend this because it doesn’t last long and it will harm the painting later. We recommend you to make glue and use it to mount it. see this article:

Maître des clésWe have stopped supplying liquid paint to some countries. Therefore, we recommend you to order natural pigments (colour chips). These are natural colours extracted from rocks/ plants.
The ingredients for the Chinese art materials are different from oil paints. The seal paste does not include leads. 🙂
However, please pay attention to our toxicity labelling. The natural pigments are not all safe to use and we do not recommend them to children. For example, cinnabar is a very common chemical used in Chinese art.

Maître des clésRegarding your questions, there is one reply on facebook:
Shǒu Bì Qiáng Zhuàng Personally I hate Customs. They drill horrible annoying holes in my Brushes, gun barrels, ornaments… everything. Drilled holes just in case I’m smuggling heroin into the country and everything I buy is deformed like this. No exceptions.
You would think they’d use a tiny 1m/m drill? No. Its a stonking great 5m/m hole. Sick society. On top of that they charge me, as in the last case, £70:00ukp $120:00usd extra for my ink stone from inkston.com.
UK. Regarding paints in tubes, no issues in the UK yet. Liquid inks are allowed and so are paint chips. That or they got through customs unnoticed. If I label a parcel I just write « Art Materials ».
If you write « PAINTS » they will assume its a tin or a great big bottle of liquid and question and stop.罗雁 LuoYan
Maître des clésPlease use chips (natural pigments). You can control the ink by adding/ extracting glue from it.
As for ink from inkstick, the left-over ink is called ‘su ink’. This has special effects and are used to create special purposes. We once interviewed one Chinese artist who followed Huang BinHong’s style and uses a lot of Su Ink painting techniques. You might be interested:
There are differences between fresh-made ink and overnight ink. 🙂 Both are great for creating unique effects. You might want to do some experiments yourself with your papers/ techniques/ brushes. I would recommend you also prepare some natural glue:

Maître des clésIt seems too dry already. She can add a bit oil into it. Check this article:
This might be complicated. If it is still not working properly, I would recommend her to buy a refill.
Avoid using metal for the seal paste. I think wood might be fine.

Maître des clésFor me, different brushes have their own special functions. For example, fine line brush made with weasel hair is mostly useful for small details while other brushes could hardly function the same way. For me, I always keep a simple but useful set of brushes, which include weasel hair brush, wool brush, and combination hair brush. There is one article on inkston about how to select proper brushes. I think you might find it helpful!
