AdministratorMounting silk is the same as mounting painting. 🙂 Therefore, we didn’t write a separate article this subject. If you encounter any problem during mounting, please share your experience with us in the forum! 🙂

AdministratorAnother good example of rock painting by Chinese artists SunYan. He paints the lines by dotting the brush quickly. And he also suggested that to get special texture of the rock, you can also leave the paper on uneven surface and then paint. This will help create a very natural texture.
There is one example.

AdministratorSu Ink can also help avoid the fuzziness of painting. Yes, quality inksticks are the best choice to make Su Ink. This is a famous painting technique used by Huang BinHong. Some of his paintings are very thick and you will find that actually he paints both sized of the paper, which even further makes the painting thicker and darker.
4th November 2017 um 3:33 pm Uhr als Antwort auf: How can I avoid ink ´running off the painting´when I mount my painting? #16228罗雁 LuoYan
Administrator‚running ink‘ can happen quite often even if sometimes you use high quality inkstick and paper. There are many reasons to explain this. Most commonly reason is bad Xuan paper. However, bad control of water can also cause this problem. Artists in China use Su Ink to avoid ‚running ink‘ problem. Su Ink can avoid this problem is because it is very thick. The special effect that Su Ink can realize is ‚lock ink on paper while only let extra water spread away‘.

AdministratorHi Bei Li, you can also try one layer if you use the thick backing paper. Yes, once it is mounted, you can frame it. 🙂 For the natural mounting glue, we will update one more tip. I will send you the link shortly.

AdministratorYes, for me it is like a Zen circle. 🙂 I like your post which shows so much happiness and satisfaction of your life. Do you have any painting of the beautiful things out of your window to share with me?
I just returned from mountain area. When I was in mountain, I had to walk 6 to 8 hours per day. Now, back to quite city life again. This is a very strange contrast for me. 😉

AdministratorSorry, I cannot find which type of white cloud brush you have from Inkston. We have one set of Red Star white cloud brushes and one set of Inkston traditional white cloud brush. For me, yes, both sets are not big enough for the 10cm characters.

AdministratorHi Amr,
Sorry for replying late! I normally like using weasel hair brush to do Yan’s regular script style (*smaller size) because weasel hair is stiff and therefore, for me I feel it is easy to control the flow of strokes in order to make all the strokes flowing regularly and under control. And, I particular like the special elegant feeling of small size regular scripts, especially Zhao MengFu’s style. (Well, the calligraphy style is really a very personal preference. 🙂 )
For the combination hair brush you mentioned, I tested some Combination Hair brushes for this 10cm size and found that this set suits me well.
For me, I like the #2 and #3 for size of 10 cm. The #2’s brush hair size is 5.3 * 1.2 cm and the #3 is 4.3 * 1 cm. The Red Star official guide recommends these combination hair brushes for both regular scripts and grass cursive scripts. This also works fine for semi-cursive, certainly.
The Zi Hao Rabbit hair brush you have is a bit too stiff to do the style you want. I like using that brush for small scale regular script. And I particular like using it for painting. 🙂 The hair size for your brush is only 3 * 0.7 cm. It is a bit too small for the 10cm size calligraphy. 🙂
Hope this is helpful! And sorry for being late on this reply because I needed some time to try out these brushes. 🙂
kindest regards,
Yan

AdministratorHi starseed, I haven’t tried suminagashi myself yet. People use rice paper *which is named as Xuan paper on Inkston. In theory, you can try any Xuan paper on inkston. However if I try, I would like to use sized Shu xuan paper or Wen Zhou pi paper because I like to get more detailed fine lines between colours. Wen Zhou Pi paper is a very strong and flexible paper due to the high percentage of Mulberry fiber.
Since using paper is a very personal preference, I would say a set of xuan paper samples would be good for you to find more possibilities. 🙂
