The paper is very nice quality, consistent and with a smoother texture and slight tooth. I will say that for me it seems to function as a straightforward raw xuan paper: ink spreads extremely easily, it is easy to get puffiness rather than sharp edges. Alternatively, less ink seems to result in a «dry brush» look as the paper gulps up ink quickly. Even with goat hair I need to recharge the brush frequently. Hard to do very large character work unless I go strongly cursive.
This paper takes washes very well, and holds up to a lot of wet-in-wet. I especially like how pine-soot ink contrasts with the paper’s slightly warm tone. It’s fairly opaque, which makes colors applied to the back very subtle from the front.
I ordered the half-sheets, and the only issue I have is that they are cut slightly unevenly. I’m cutting them down further to fit my workspace anyway, so this isn’t too inconvenient.
Very beautiful paper, it’s also nice it’s in between raw and sized xuan paper, making it perfect if you want to make a painting without an outline, but with details such as cats. The gold flakes come off a little bit when painting but this is very minimal and you will be left with a beautiful result. It has a beautiful shine to it when it is sunlight. It amazes all people around me when I show it to them.
This shimmer plus xuan paper works really well for detailed paintings, and flower paintings such as peony. it also wrinkles less than the unsized xuan papers. The sparkles from the mica paper give it a fresh and lively feeling making it a favorite of mine!
I really love this paper! I would absolutely order more of it. I know it’s kind of expensive compared to the machine-made xuan paper, but the high quality of this paper makes it absolutely worth it.
Presentazione e conservazione fantastica

All interactions with shop were easy and they were nice. I don’t know much about this kind of paper because I’ve never used it before but it certainly seems good to me.
INKSTON Perfect 80 Xuan Paper is good quality, it has a light yellow tint and good absorbing and bleeding properties. Once in a while some areas do not absorb as well, or there may be an imperfection in the paper (which is natural). I just do not know why some areas act as if there was oil and it resists the ink, and other areas it is fine. Overall, good value for the cost – also versatile for dry and wet painting.
This is very good paper for writing calligraphy. Quality costs money but it’s definitly worth it. Not too absorbent, just right and the brush gently slides on the paper. I do really recommend this paper when writing a definite work. For practicing its maybe better to use other paper.
You can see the the different structures in the paper so it’s really hand made which makes it such good paper.
It took some time to arrive, but that was expected. The box it came in was well wrapped and every item inside was delicately wrapped. Very impressed. I tried this paper first and the ink stick (Qing mo?)I bought in the same order. I don’t know much about Xuan paper and ink so I’m still testing and learning the difference. I only have the paper and ink stick I bought from Chinatown to compare. But the paper is amazing in a way it exceed my expectation of it. It look really thin and much more fragile than the Chinatown Xuan paper but I was surprised how there’s less bleeding for every stroke I put down. Maybe it’s due to the fact I’m also using better ink (the ink stick from Chinatown smells awful when I grind it). All in all I’m really impressed with this paper.
Paper was very well packed, with loving care and arrived in New Zealand in perfect condition and in good time.
Paper is absolutely gorgeous and hopefully l can eventually do it justice. Have included picture of first attempt with Xuan paper, as you can see, room for improvement, but personally l am pleased with result and very pleased with the paper. Only problem l have, is which of the papers to try next.
Thank you ever so much
Matthew
I´m really excited about it! Strong, nice texture of the handmade paper, high quality… Manipulation with the moistened paper is very good and quite easy.
This paper is clearly hand made, it has a slightly yellow/ivory tint , and tiny bits of impurities scattered here and there, that add to its charm.
It is extremely absorbent! it quickly turns transparent when it`s wet, so you must train and make use of your patience between strokes. It is most suitable for wet-into-wet, runny, fuzzy, smudgy effects. You can also produce lines if you learn how loaded your brush must be, how thick the ink, and how quick the movement!
It is really one of the «truth papers» bescause it retains EVERY stroke! Even if you cover your previous strokes with a splash of darker ink, still you can see the coverd strokes singled out, sometimes surrounded by a thin thin lighter line! So the paper works best for a «one stoke» kind of approach.
I also sized the paper myself useing alum and glue water and turned it into a normal kind, much less absorbent and easier to control paper.
I am trying to improve my calligraphy and the Expert Calligraphy paper was a ‘present to myself’ to encourage me to practice. It feels wonderful – slightly more absorbent than the semi sized (half cooked?) paper I normally use but of much higher quality.
The Extra Fine 45 aged paper is beautiful and will be my ‘standard practice paper’ for the next few weeks. I struggle with getting the correct moisture on my brush and need to practice on just one paper to improve my control.
Paper quality rivals that of much more expensive products. The Craftsmanship of this paper shows the unbelieable amount of detail that is spent in perfecting such a rich paper.

I bought this for a present for my son’s new girlfriend. I don’t know if she has used it yet but I thought it was gorgeous.
