Type: Premium Tung Oil Soot

This is a first grade oil soot inkstick from Old Hu Kai Wen. It has an elegant engraving of bird and plum blossom on one side. The other side is calligraphy which reads ‘一枝春’. The calligraphy means a branch of spring.

Materials

Oil soot black inks are good for both calligraphy and painting, the black is deep, sophisticated, bright while not overwhelming. High grade inks may have added aromatic oils such as musk and borneol, Chinese medicinal ingredients or gold leaf.

  • This is an amazing ink stick! I tested it today and I absolutely love it! It grinds very easily and smoothly and doesn’t scratch the surface of the inkstone. The ink consistency is quite thick and I can use it for calligraphy and painting very well. No impurities in the ink. I’m going to further test it with a different type of paper in the next few days and I’m sure it will work well.

    Note; if buying for the first time I recommend starting with cheaper ones to practice. The quality of the cheap ink sticks is still really good IMO and they will not prevent you from creating your art.

    Je l’ai achetée car je voulais tester l’encre en suie d’huile de lin. Le bâton n’est pas encore très entamé mais disons que l’encre est fin et dense.

  • I love this one: This ink is “bites” into the paper. It’s supper sufficient and performs a thick and beautiful black ink. Gives a different feeling, and ink to paint with – amazing.
